Congratulations to four faculty members at the College of Dentistry who received notification of promotions from University of Florida President J. Bernard Machen, and three who were selected as senior faculty at the university and recognized for their contributions to the university. Effective July 1, 2011, Robert Burne, will be awarded the title of distinguished professor; Madhu Nair and Joseph Riley are both being promoted to professor; Fong Wong has been awarded tenure and is being promoted to associate professor. FRIDAY, July 1 (HealthDay News) — Immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy has a low risk of complications and does not cause unreasonable delays in breast cancer treatment, according to a new study.
Mastectomy is partial or complete surgical removal of one or both breasts.
Researchers looked at 170 women with advanced breast cancer who had immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy, including 13 women who had reconstruction of both breasts.

Timothy T. Wheeler, D.M.D., Ph.D., has been appointed Senior Associate Dean and Director of the School of Advanced Dental Sciences effective July 1, 2011. This new position was created to lead the new School of Advanced Dental Sciences, and the chairs of Endodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology and the graduate program director in the Department of Prosthodontics will be reporting to Wheeler as part of the new school’s structure. On Friday, May 20, 2011, before a very proud and enthusiastic crowd of family, friends, and college faculty and staff, 81 candidates received their Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees and 36 dentists received certificates or graduate degrees in Advanced Dental Education at the UF Center for the Performing Arts during the 36th Annual Commencement of the University of Florida College of Dentistry. WEDNESDAY, June 22 (HealthDay News) — Silicone-gel breast implants don’t last forever, with as many as half of women with the devices requiring removal within 10 years of the initial surgery, U.S. health officials said Wednesday.
And “the longer a woman has the implants, the more likely she is to experience complications,” Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, director for the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the U.S.
