GSDM Joins Forces with NHLBI for Free Conference: GSDM Community Encouraged to Attend

Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine is joining forces with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to present a conference titled, “3Is (Infection, Immunity, Inflammation) and Atherothrombosis: New Directions for Improving Patient Care,” on September 7 in the 670 Albany Street Auditorium.

The complimentary conference will examine atherothrombosis disorders. Atherothrombosis remains the main underlying cause of cardiovascular disease. Despite this significant public health impact, knowledge and actions regarding atherothrombotic disorders remain inadequate. The objectives of the conference are:

  •  Assess what is known about the role of infection, immunity, inflammation, and their interactions in the development and progression of atherothrombotic diseases
  • Review emerging technologies that may help shape the field in the future
  • Identify research needs related to infection, immunity, and inflammation directed at improving prevention and treatment of atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease

This conference is intended for stakeholders from academia and industries, immunologists, infectionists, vascular biologists, cardiologists, hematologists, geneticists, representatives from NIH Institutes and Centers, patient advocates, and members of federal and non-federal regulatory and standards-setting organizations.

“Please accept my personal invitation to attend this Conference,” said organizer and GSDM Center for Anti-Inflammatory Therapeutics Director Dr. Salomon Amar. “We have put together a program addressing infection, immunity, and inflammation in the context of atherosclerosis by major leaders in the field. Dr. Shurin, the Acting Director of NHLBI, will honor us with her presence and will deliver the welcoming remarks. I look forward to having all members of the GSDM community join us at the Conference.”

“It is an honor for the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine to have the opportunity to present this cutting-edge research in partnership with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “I encourage everyone who is able to attend the Conference. I am certain that you will learn a great deal from each of the speakers as they are leaders in the field.” The conference is free and open to the public.
